World Chess Championship 2024 Live Updates: Ding Liren 50 minutes down on clock after 14 moves


FIDE World Chess Championship 2024 Singapore Live Updates, Gukesh D vs Ding Liren: Ding Liren, one of the best-prepared opponents Gukesh Dharavath is likely to face in the first game of the World Chess Championship battle, tried to take his young challenger by surprise with a French Defence early on. However, the Chinese world champion spent over 25 minutes in on his seventh move, falling nearly half an hour behind the Indian prodigy.

Gukesh started with white pieces against Ding Liren. After 13 moves on the board from both players, Gukesh had almost 35 additional minutes on his clock than Ding Liren. However, Ding was a pawn up.

History hangs in the balance as 18-year-old Gukesh takes on Ding Liren in a 14-round battle royale called the World Chess Championship. It's the match billed by FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovich as the clash of the 'Indian tiger and the Chinese dragon'.
